今回は沖縄の二大人気エリアである「那覇市」と「北谷町」を比較しながら、それぞれのクリスマスの楽しみ方をご紹介します！
シティ派？ リゾート派？ 2つの街のクリスマス
まずは、沖縄の玄関口・那覇市。 那覇のクリスマスは、都会的な華やかさと歴史が入り混じった「チャンプルー文化」な雰囲気が魅力です。
那覇市の魅力：
メインストリートの「国際通り」周辺や、パレットくもじ前の大きなツリーは定番の待ち合わせスポット。
洗練されたホテルでのディナーや、隠れ家的なバーでしっとり過ごす「大人のクリスマス」がよく似合います。
どこかアジアの活気ある都市のような、独特の賑やかさが楽しめます。
車を少し北へ走らせると、私たちのオフィスがある異国情緒の町、北谷町にたどり着きます。
北谷町のクリスマスもハロウィンと同じく、一歩足を踏み入れた瞬間に「ここは海外のビーチリゾート？」と錯覚してしまうほどの没入感があります。
北谷町の魅力：
やはり「アメリカンビレッジ」のイルミネーションは圧巻！
米軍基地が近いこともあり、デコレーションの規模やセンスがとにかくダイナミックです。
サンタクロースのオブジェがあちこちに現れ、カフェからは英語のクリスマスソングが流れ……まさに「アメリカンなクリスマス」そのもの。
海風を感じながら歩くプロムナードは、日本にいることを忘れてしまうほどの開放感に満ちています。

December is finally here, and Okinawa is starting to feel that seasonal chill at last! You might be wondering, “What’s Christmas even like on a tropical island?” Well, believe it or not, Christmas in Okinawa is actually one of the best times to visit. It offers a unique “exotic, international vibe” that you just won’t find on mainland Japan.
Today, let’s compare Okinawa’s two most popular areas—Naha City and Chatan Town—to see how each celebrates the season!
City Lights or Resort Vibes? Two Ways to Spend Christmas
First up is Naha City, the gateway to Okinawa. Christmas in Naha is all about that “Chanpuru (mix)” culture—a charming blend of modern urban sparkle and deep history.
The Naha Vibe: The main street, Kokusai-dori, and the massive tree in front of Palette Kumoji are the go-to meeting spots. Naha is perfect for a “sophisticated adult Christmas”—think elegant hotel dinners or sipping cocktails at a hidden speakeasy. It has that unique energy of a vibrant Asian metropolis.
Just a short drive north brings you to the capital of exoticism—Chatan Town (which is also where our office is located). Just like during Halloween, the moment you step foot here, you’ll feel like you’ve been transported to an overseas beach resort.
The Chatan Vibe: The illuminations at Mihama American Village are simply breathtaking as expected! Because of the nearby military bases, the scale and style of the decorations are incredibly dynamic and bold. With Santa statues around every corner and English Christmas carol drifting from the cafes, it’s a total American-style Christmas. Walking along the seaside promenade with the ocean breeze in your hair, you’ll completely forget you’re even in Japan.
Which One is for You?
You’ll love Naha City if… You value convenience and shopping, and want to enjoy delicious food and drinks in a more refined, laid-back atmosphere.
You’ll love Chatan Town if… You’re all about the “Instagrammable” moments! If you want that exciting “overseas trip” feeling and want to be surrounded by flashy, high-energy lights, this is your spot.
Some years in Okinawa, it’s warm enough to spend Christmas in short sleeves! A snowy “White Christmas” in the cold is lovely, but a tropical night with lit-up palm trees creates a memory that’s just as unforgettable.
