こんにちは！ 北谷オフィスです！
このブログでは毎回、主に公開時期に合わせて開催されるイベントについていますが、今回は「令和７年度 第39回 シーポートちゃたんカーニバル」を紹介します。
沖縄県では当たり前のように知られていて、「ええ？ そんなに長いこと続けられているイベントがあるの？」と、沖縄県外出身の私は驚きました。
このイベントのキャッチフレーズは「好きです北谷の海」というもので、7月～9月までは毎週火曜日に花火が打ち上げられ、そこから先の10月は、同じく毎週金曜日に花火の打ち上げが開催される予定です。
沖縄では何かと各地域の青年会によるエイサーなどの出し物がありますが、このカーニバルで最も有名な出し物は「水上花火」です。
打ち上げ場所はアラハビーチから少し離れたサンセットビーチで、そこから少し離れた場所には「美浜アメリカンビレッジ」という、テーマパークとも呼べる場所があり、10月以降もその団体の協力で花火が打ち上げられます。
美浜アメリカンビレッジには買い物から遊園地、映画、ライブハウスなど、これでもかというぐらいに娯楽が詰まっています。
そのアメリカンビレッジをエンジョイしたあとにシーポートちゃたんカーニバルに訪れるのも一興でしょう。
ところで、個人的に気になるのはアメリカンビレッジにあるライブハウス「MODS」ですね。
一度も行ったことはありませんが、1970年半ばに福岡県博多市で活躍し、1980年あたりにメジャーデビューしたバンド「モッズ」と同じ名前なので、何らかの関係があるかも……（お前、何歳だよ！←自分）
年齢もバレそうなついでに、先日、北谷オフィスにパンクロックが大好きな2人（S.Nさん、J.Oさん）を紹介しましたが、ここでもう1人、パンクロック大好きなメンバーを紹介しましょう。
それは――このブログ記事を書いている私です。
はい、わかりますよね（笑）。
実は私、14歳の時にギターを始め、主にブリティッシュロックに影響されながら、1970年代パンクロックにショックを受けました。
現在、私のアパートにはイギリス製の50Wアンプがあり、それをほんの1秒だけでも爆音で鳴らすと、次の瞬間には大家さんから電話が入り、「次にやったら退去してもらいますよ」と言われたことがあります。
S.N.さんとJ.O.さんの3人でバンドを組めば、これでスリーピースのパンクバンドが出来上がりです。
いつか3人で爆音を鳴らしてセッションしたいなぁと、いつも思っています。
北谷オフィスはすぐ近くに海が見えるアラハ公園があり、とても景色が良いところに立地しています。

Hello from Chatan Office!
This blog usually highlights events happening around the time of each post. This time, however, I’m going to introduce the “39th Seaport Chatan Carnival,” a super popular event here in Okinawa. Since I’m not from Okinawa, I was totally surprised when I found out how long this event has been going on.
The catchphrase for this event is “I love Chatan’s sea.” There will be fireworks every Tuesday from July through September, and then they’ll switch to every Friday in October.
In Okinawa, it’s common to see performances like Eisa dancing by local youth associations, but the most popular part of this carnival is the “water fireworks.” The fireworks are launched from Sunset Beach, which is a short walk from Araha Beach. A little further away, you’ll find Mihama American Village, a theme-park-like area. With their support, fireworks will continue to be launched there after October. American Village is packed with all kinds of fun, from shopping and amusement rides to a movie theater and live music venues—you’ll never run out of things to do! It would be a great idea to visit the Seaport Chatan Carnival after spending some time enjoying American Village.
By the way, I’m personally curious about the live music club “MODS” in American Village. I’ve never been there, but since it has the same name as the band “The Mods” that was active in Hakata, Fukuoka in the mid-70s and made their major debut around 1980, I wonder if there’s some kind of connection… (You’re totally showing your age with that one! Lol)
Speaking of showing my age, I recently introduced two of my coworkers here at the Chatan office, Mr. S.N. and Ms. J.O., who both love punk rock. Well, it’s time to introduce one more person who’s a huge fan of punk rock. That would be me—the one writing this very blog post. Yeah, I know, you probably saw that coming.
I started playing guitar when I was 14. While I was mostly into British rock, I was totally blown away by 1970s punk. I still have a 50W British amp in my apartment, and I once cranked it up for just one second—only to get a call from my landlord telling me, “Do that again and you’re out.” With Mr. S.N. and Ms. J.O., we’d have a perfect three-piece punk band. I always dream of the three of us someday getting together and playing so loud we blow the windows out.
Our Chatan office is in a beautiful, scenic spot near Araha Park, where you can enjoy great ocean views.
