もうすぐ本格的な夏が訪れます。
皆さんいかがお過ごしですか？
沖縄の夏といえば、絶対に外せないのが「エイサー」です。
エイサーは日本全国でも有名なのではと思いますが、その目的のひとつに「ご先祖様をあの世に送り出すこと」が含まれており、主に三線（さんしん：沖縄の三味線）と太鼓を使ってにぎやかに歌い、踊りに興じます。
また、エイサーは沖縄県や県内の市区町村にある青年会のメンバーや有名人が参加し、各地の公園や植物園、コンサート会場が大賑わいになります。
沖縄では、旧盆に当たる3日間に「沖縄全島エイサーまつり」というイベントがありますが、さらにはそのプレイベントとして「エイサーナイト」が6月、7月、8月に開催されます。
どちらのイベントも「沖縄の伝統芸能であるエイサーを継承発展させる」「地域の活性化させる」「青少年の健全育成を図る」ということろ目的として開催されます。
エイサーまつりが開催される前の時期は、夜になると本番さながらの、青年会のメンバーによる練習の音が部屋の中まで聞こえてきます。
その音量は「赤ちゃんが起きてしまうんじゃないか？」と心配してしまうほどで、これも夏の風物詩となっています。
全国の都道府県でも。7月は七夕、8月はお盆まつりや平和祈念式典などが開催されますが、お住まいの地域では6月は何か開催されますか？

It’s almost summertime! How is everyone these days?
When it comes to Okinawan summer, you can’t skip Eisa, the traditional Okinawan folk dance. Eisa is getting well-known throughout Japan, and one of its main purposes is to guide ancestral spirits back to the afterlife.
In Eisa, lively songs and dances are performed mainly with Sanshin (an Okinawan three-stringed guitar) and Okinawan traditional drums.
And Eisa is protected as an intangible cultural asset by Okinawa Prefecture and its various local governments.
Eisa events feature members of youth associations from various municipalities across Okinawa and celebrities in Japan, filling parks, botanical gardens, and concert venues with excitement.
When it’s the lunar Bon Festival in Okinawa, there’s a big event called the “Okinawa All Island Eisa Festival” that lasts for three days. They also have “Eisa Night” events in June, July, and August, kind of like a lead-up to the main festival.
Before the actual Eisa Festival, the members of the youth association practice like every night. You can hear this practice even in your room. The sound is so loud that you might worry, ‘Will that loud sound wake up the baby?’ This has become a summer tradition.
In many prefectures across Japan, people generally hold the Star Festival in July and the Bon Festival (a festival to welcome the spirits of ancestors, express gratitude, and reaffirm family ties). Are there any festivals in your area in June?
