3月に入り、沖縄では日差しが柔らかくなってきましたね。
この時期は「うりずん」と呼ばれる、一年で最も過ごしやすい季節の入り口であって、それに各地で春を告げる行事やイベントが目白押しです。
今日は、3月初旬から中旬にかけての沖縄を楽しむためのトピックをいくつかご紹介します！
1. 旧正月のフィナーレ「二十日正月（ハチカソーグヮチ）」
沖縄では旧暦で行事を行うことが多いですが、3月8日は「二十日正月」にあたります。
これは文字通り、旧正月の20日目に行われる「正月の締めくくり」の行事であって、それにこの日を境に正月飾りを片付け、日常へと戻る大切な節目です。
那覇市の辻では、伝統的な「じゅり馬」の演舞が奉納されることもあります。
家庭ではヒヌカン（火の神様）や仏壇にテビチ汁などをお供えして、家族の健康を祈るのが習わしです。
正月の賑やかさが落ち着き、また新しい季節が始まるような、清々しい気持ちになれる日ですね！
2. 家族で楽しむ「沖縄こどもの国 花まつり 2026」
続いては、3月11日からスタートする「沖縄こどもの国 花まつり」です！
沖縄市にあるこの場所は、動物園としても人気ですが、この時期は園内が色鮮やかな花々で埋め尽くされます。
歩いているだけで心が弾むような景色が広がっているほか、家族連れやデートにもぴったりで、それに写真映えするスポットもたくさん用意されています。
動物たちも心なしか、春の陽気に誘われて元気に動いているように見えますよ。

3. 日本一早い春を彩る「東村つつじ祭り」
最後にご紹介するのは、沖縄本島北部、やんばるの「東村つつじ祭り」です。
3月初旬から中旬にかけて見頃を迎えるこのお祭りは、なんと5万本ものつつじが咲き誇る、県内でも屈指の春のイベントです。
赤やピンク、白のつつじが山肌を染める様子は圧巻であって、それにドライブがてら北部の豊かな自然を感じるのにも最高な目的地です。
ちょうど3月9日あたりの時期は、お花の状態も期待できるタイミングなので、そのため週末の予定に組み込んでみてはいかがでしょうか？

As we enter March, the sunlight in Okinawa is finally getting softer and warmer.
This time of year marks the beginning of “Urizun,” the season most locals consider the most pleasant.
It is a time when the island is bustling with events and festivals to welcome the arrival of spring.
Today, I would like to share some highlights for enjoying Okinawa from early to mid-March!
1. The Finale of the Lunar New Year: “Hachika-Sogwachi”
In Okinawa, many traditional events still follow the lunar calendar.
March 8th marks “Hachika-Sogwachi,” or the 20th day of the New Year.
Literally meaning “the 20th day New Year,” it serves as the final celebration to wrap up the holiday season.
It is a significant milestone where we put away the decorations and return to our daily routines.
In the Tsuji area of Naha, you might see the traditional “Juri-uma” dance performance.
At home, families offer Tebichi (pig’s feet) soup to the Hinukan (fire god) and the family altar to pray for health.
It is a refreshing day that marks the end of the festive bustle and the start of a new season!
2. Family Fun at “Okinawa Zoo & Museum Flower Festival 2026”
Next up is the Flower Festival at Okinawa Zoo & Museum (Kodomo no Kuni), starting March 11th! While this spot is famous as a zoo, during this season, the entire grounds are blanketed in vibrant, colorful flowers.
The scenery alone is enough to lift your spirits! It is a perfect spot for families or dates, and there are plenty of “Instagrammable” photo ops.
Even the animals seem a bit more energetic, lured out by the spring breeze.
Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes when you visit!
3. Japan’s Earliest Spring Colors: “Higashi Village Azalea Festival”
Last but not least, let’s head to the northern part of the main island, the Yanbaru region, for the Higashi Village Azalea Festival.
Peak bloom usually happens from early to mid-March.
This is one of the island’s premier spring events, featuring an incredible 50,000 azalea bushes!
The sight of red, pink, and white azaleas painting the hillsides is breathtaking. It is a fantastic destination for a drive to experience the lush nature of the north.
